Porto Ferro Beach

Located on the northwest coast of Sardinia, about a half-hour drive from Sassari, is the Porto Ferro Beach. This stunning beach location offers an impressive backdrop consisting of a long, curving sandy shore nestled in a sheltered bay. The shore stretches over two kilometers and impresses with its fine, reddish-brown sand grains that blend harmoniously with shells. The clear waters shine in various shades of emerald green and azure blue - an invitation to relax and enjoy.

Activities and Amenities

Porto Ferro is not only a place to unwind but also attracts adventurous surfers and kite surfers who appreciate the powerful waves and steady winds. The currents are strong and require caution, especially when it is windy. However, for the less daring swimmers, the bay is also ideal for sunbathing and photography. Here, one can enjoy the sunset in all its glory while sitting on the red sand dunes instead of crowded loungers.

In the immediate vicinity, there are various recreational spots and small bars offering regional delicacies. These are conveniently located right on the beach and provide an excellent opportunity to enjoy the ambiance while purchasing something to eat or drink. Prices here are generally fair, and the atmosphere is relaxed.

Natural Beauty and History

The bay is framed by dramatic red trachyte cliffs and Mediterranean vegetation. The beaches are clean and well-maintained, meeting the standards of the Blue Flag, which recognizes their environmental friendliness and sustainability. Historical highlights include the remains of three watchtowers built by the Spanish in the 17th century to defend against pirate attacks. These towers are not only a visual landmark but also witnesses to the region’s rich history.

Another highlight is the Lago di Baratz, located just a few kilometers away and considered the only natural lake in Sardinia. This area offers a mix of coastal landscape and protected nature, home to various species of wildlife.

Accessibility and Serenity

Porto Ferro is easily accessible via Road 55 and offers ample parking opportunities.

Costs

Access to the beach is free, but it’s advisable to bring some cash, as small kiosks offer local handmade souvenirs, including ethnic jewelry and batik fabrics. An excellent place to gather a unique impression of the region's culture!
