More Information

Chengdu Panda Research Base

The Chengdu Panda Research Base, also known as the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, is the largest facility of its kind dedicated to the breeding and protection of giant pandas. This unique establishment is located in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province in China. The research facility has made a name for itself by not only breeding pandas but also making them accessible to the public, allowing visitors to interact with and observe these fascinating and endangered animals.

Facility and Arrival

The address of the base is 1375 Xiong Mao Da Dao, Cheng Hua Qu, Cheng Du Shi, Si Chuan Sheng, China, 610016. When visiting, it is advisable to make early bookings to avoid potential wait times. The facility is large and covers several hectares, so a small shuttle service, available for a fee of 30 Yuan, may be helpful for navigating this expansive area. Note that taxis can only take you to a nearby parking area, and you will need to walk about 500 meters to the ticket offices.

Experience at the Panda Sanctuary

A visit to the Chengdu Panda Research Base is a dream trip for many, and for good reason. The opportunity to observe these majestic animals in their special habitat is unforgettable. The facility is home to approximately 200 pandas, and visitors can see various animals in different life stages in different areas of the facility. The young pandas, in particular, are popular and can be observed playing or eating. The park also offers informative areas about panda behavior and breeding, contributing to an educational visit.

Tips for Visiting

It is advisable to arrive early in the morning to take advantage of the best opportunities for observing the pandas, as they tend to stay in air-conditioned indoor spaces during hot weather. To avoid crowds, try to enter the park right at opening time. Conveniently, there are elevators and escalators, making it accessible for visitors with limited mobility.

Reviews

Opinions about the Chengdu Panda Research Base are mixed. Many visitors are overwhelmed by the opportunity to see the pandas in such a loving environment. The large open spaces and the sustainable breeding program receive praise. However, some visitors have complained about long wait times, especially during peak periods, and have recommended booking tickets in advance. A common point of criticism is the visibility through the glass of the enclosures, which are often dirty and hinder photography opportunities. Nevertheless, the sight of a sweet panda remains unforgettable for most, and the entrance fee is generally considered fair.
