DB Family Ticket 2026: What Rainbow Families Should Know Before Booking
Available for booking from October 26: Who will find the return of the family ticket interesting - and when it is worth comparing
DB Family Ticket starting October 26, 2026: Price, children's rules, and travel start explained. What rainbow families should check before booking.
A family weekend often starts with a bill: two adults, several children, outbound journey, return journey, and seats. Deutsche Bahn is bringing back its family ticket for this purpose. It will be available for booking again starting from October 26, 2026, for journeys from November 1. For rainbow families, the composition of the travel group is particularly interesting. The name of the offer alone does not answer all questions regarding booking.
What the family ticket costs and who is allowed to travel with it
According to the current Announcement of Deutsche Bahn The round trip across Germany on DB long-distance trains costs 99.99 euros for up to five people. Seat reservations are included. At least one child must travel; a maximum of two people may be 15 years or older. The offer is intended to remain permanent.
The age limit is crucial in planning: Two adults and a 15-year-old teenager already count as three persons aged 15 and over. This composition does not match the announced limit. Therefore, do not only count the people, but also note the ages for both travel days.
What rainbow families should clarify before the purchase
The published overview specifies the age and personal limits. It is not a complete representation of all tariff conditions. What proofs may be required and how different family configurations are recorded at the time of booking should be checked based on the specific offer conditions. The overview does not mention any additional restriction based on sexual orientation.
For your planning, this means: Do not rely on an assumed kinship obligation nor on the opposite assumption. If the booking form does not clearly represent your situation, clarify the matter with the provider before making a purchase. This applies, for example, to travels with an additional adult relative.
When a price comparison remains meaningful
A fixed group price is not automatically the cheapest price for every family. Compare the same outbound and return trip with the other available fares and calculate the desired seats as well. Also consider the terms for changes and cancellations. A low total price is of little help if the return trip does not fit your weekend.
It's best to prepare two or three suitable connections for yourself. Check transfers, the time to reach the connection, and the route from the train station to your accommodation. For a short visit, a suitable arrival and a stress-free return trip can be more important than a minor price difference.
The dates at a glance
Booking starts on October 26, 2026, with the earliest announced travel date being November 1. As of today, October 21, the returning offer is not yet bookable. Save the official offer page and check the full terms at the start of sales. For the trip itself, booking confirmation, matching names, and the necessary documentation should be on the preparation list.
As of October 21, 2026. Price and key data according to the linked DB announcement; the fare conditions indicated at the time of booking are decisive.
