Brazil: new leaders in LGBTQIAPN+ tourism
Strengthened Queer Interests
Today, anyone traveling who seeks a sense of acceptance and vibrant diversity can hardly overlook Brazil: São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Florianópolis have recently positioned themselves among the top 10 most open cities in the world for LGBTQIAPN+ families and travelers. With millions attending street festivals, numerous queer accommodations, and an atmosphere that celebrates respect and equality, these metropolises attract people from all over the world.
New Leaders of Warmth
São Paulo sets a new standard with over 890 inclusive accommodations. Here, one of the largest Pride parades in the world takes place annually – an event that transforms the city into a shimmering sea of open colors. Florianópolis also establishes itself as a trendy destination, not only for its impressive beaches but also for its nearly 700 explicitly open-minded lodging options and its relaxed, creative scene. The "Cidade Maravilhosa" Rio de Janeiro also makes it into the global club of the best – numerous hotels, bars, and events consciously prioritize diversity and safety for all.
Roots, Change, and Future
Public perception and political initiatives in Brazil have visibly changed in recent years. The Ministry of Tourism is setting standards with its online brochure "Bem atender: turistas LGBTQIA+" by providing industry employees with assistance on respectful interaction and reducing discrimination. A new development in 2024 is the inclusion of the Câmara de Comércio e Turismo LGBT do Brasil in the National Tourism Council (CNT). This gives the interests of LGBTQIAPN+ individuals and couples a voice in crucial tourism policy matters. This success story aligns with international pioneers like Milan, Rome, London, and Cape Town – cities that have long prioritized genuine equality for all. Recent data highlight that Brazil's openness is not solely based on parties and carnival, but on the concrete commitment of many actors from politics and civil society.
"We want everyone to feel welcome and understood with us. This attitude makes our cities sustainable and attractive," emphasizes a spokesman for the National Tourism Council.
Between Hope and Next Step
Those traveling to Brazil as a couple, family, or solo expect safety, respect, and genuine togetherness. Will the country live up to this expectation and be able to keep this promise in the long term, even in the face of societal and political challenges? The journey begins, but its future is written anew day by day. It is clear: the foundations for greater openness and participation have been laid – not only for LGBTQIAPN+, but for all who wish to explore the country with open hearts.
