Originally launched as a 9-Euro ticket for testing, the Germany ticket is now nine euros more expensive: The transport ministers of the federal states agreed on an increase of nine euros starting in 2025, making it cost 58 euros per month from next year. All the background and information on this are provided below:

Price increase for Germany ticket

The Deutschlandticket, informally also known as the 49-Euro-Ticket, is a monthly or time ticket valid throughout Germany for local public transport. It allows travel on all buses and trains of local and regional transport nationwide, but not on long-distance trains. The ticket is available exclusively as a subscription that can be canceled monthly, and this will remain the case even with the price increase to 58 euros. This price increase for the ticket in 2025 is necessary "to balance a suitable financing concept together with the state subsidies from the federal government and the states," according to the Conference of Transport Ministers. The Deutschlandticket is a successful model and contributes to sustainability, which is why there is criticism regarding the price increase: A too-high price could jeopardize the attractiveness of the ticket. On the other hand, the states had already made it clear before the decision that solid and long-term financing is essential.

Advantages of the Deutschlandticket

For commuters, especially in urban areas, it is often cheaper than other time tickets – even after the increase to 58 euros. Moreover, it has achieved something revolutionary in bureaucratic Germany – the confusing tariff jungle is gone. The ticket simplifies the tariff structure of many transport associations across the country. Currently, around 13 million people in Germany are using the Deutschlandticket.

The Deutschland Ticket can be purchased online and in the DB Navigator app, as well as nationwide at DB travel centers. Many other transportation companies also sell the Deutschland Ticket through their sales channels. If you are traveling with the Deutschland Ticket and arrive at your destination station at least 60 minutes late due to a delay or train cancellation in local transport, you are entitled to compensation of €1.50 for each case.
