In Parga, a picturesque harbor town on Greece's west coast, a new direct flight connection from Germany will be launched in May 2024, making the previously little-frequented destination more accessible for travelers from Central Europe. The airline Condor has announced that it will operate a seasonal direct flight from Frankfurt to Preveza starting May 5. This will make the hidden gem of Epirus accessible to individual tourism on a larger scale for the first time and could significantly invigorate travel in the Ionian region.

The most important points at a glance.

  • Condor will fly directly from Frankfurt to Preveza starting in May 2024.
  • Parga will be easily accessible from Germany for the first time without a stopover.
  • The region of Epirus has previously been considered a hidden gem off the classic routes.
  • New connection promotes individual explorations of small places like Parga.

New direct flights awaken interest in Epirus.

With the introduction of the direct connection, a gentle shift is heralded for the previously tranquil tourism in northwestern Greece. The route from Frankfurt to Preveza, which is serviced weekly by the airline Condor, provides German holidaymakers with their first quick access to a region characterized by impressive mountains, bright blue bays, and Mediterranean small towns. The transfer from Preveza to Parga takes about one and a half hours by car. The airline promises to close a gap between the Balkan coasts and well-known destination areas in the south.

Historical settings and diverse nature

Parga, famous for its pastel-colored facades, narrow streets, and the Norman castle ruins high above the sea, forms the heart of a landscape shaped by olive groves and a rugged coastline. The town, with its approximately 3,000 inhabitants, was primarily known to Greek families and Italian independent travelers until the new connection. The diverse surroundings, with hiking trails, hidden swimming coves, and the island of Panagia in the bay, now invite guests from Germany to discover Greece in a relaxed way, away from tourist hotspots. The region is considered a destination for active travelers who want to choose between beach, culture, and nature experiences.

Practical information for arrival and the best travel time.

Condor has confirmed that the direct flights will initially be offered seasonally until October, coinciding with the quieter spring and autumn months. May and September, in particular, are well-suited for relaxed exploration of the hiking-friendly hinterland due to mild temperatures and fewer visitors. Alternatively, flights to Corfu with a subsequent ferry connection to Igoumenitsa are still available, but the new route is currently the simplest for travelers from Germany.

According to Condor, the offer will be continuously reviewed based on demand. Parga is thus opening up at the beginning of the summer season 2024 to a growing international circle of travelers, without losing the charm and authenticity that has made this place a hidden gem.
