One does not have to travel to Hollywood to take a trip to a famous location in film or television history. There are also many great filming locations in Germany that have become popular destination spots.

We will tell you where to find them:

Stahnsdorf

This cemetery near Berlin served as a backdrop for the globally successful Netflix series "Dark": the wooden chapel in Norwegian style is depicted as a motif of the fictional town of Winden.

Ahlbeck

Loriot's comedy "Pappa ante portas" is long since a classic of German film history, and the seaside promenade of this Baltic Sea resort on Usedom makes an appearance in it.

Moritzburg

Every year, the fairytale "Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella" plays in a continuous loop on television. Anyone who wants to see the castle featured in it in real life should go to the Baroque Moritzburg Castle in the district of Meißen near Dresden.

Roseburg

Nostalgia TV fans can admire the estate from the ZDF cult series "The Inheritance of the Guldenburgs" here: In this municipality in the district of Herzogtum Lauenburg (Schleswig-Holstein) lies the Wotersen estate, and its yellow buildings and stables were filming locations.

Schulzendorf

Sounds unspectacular, but among other things, this castle was used for filming the popular Netflix series "The Queen's Gambit," serving as the fictional girls' orphanage Methuen Home in Kentucky. The series also presents the audience with footage of the Berliner Friedrichstadtpalast and the Palais am Funkturm as representations of America.

Görlitz

The eastern Saxon city, more precisely the old town of Görlitz, is a sought-after film location: Historical films such as "Fabian," "Inglourious Basterds," "Werk ohne Autor," and "The Reader" have been filmed here.

Glottertal

A popular and coveted excursion destination for German series fans is a building in Glottertal, as the "Schwarzwaldklinik" was filmed there. The local museum Hüsli in Grafenhausen also served as the residence of Chief Physician Professor Brinkmann.

Eltville

Here in the Hessian Rheingau, in the (Cistercian) monastery of Eberbach, the interior shots for the Umberto Eco film adaptation "The Name of the Rose" with Sean Connery took place in the mid-1980s.
