A ranking has now determined the best wineries in the world, and the most outstanding of all is located in Spain.

Making great wine is no child's play. It depends on everything, from the ripeness of the grapes to the quality of the soil, the climate, a good fermentation process, and the way the stuff is bottled. Fortunately, there are wonderful vineyards and people around the world who manage them and think about these things, so we don't have to worry about it and can simply enjoy.

So how was the winner determined? The top 50 list was compiled from all nominations by the very officially sounding global voting academy. Each region of the world was led by an expert who recruited 36 wine and travel professionals, and all voted for seven vineyards each.

The top spot was taken by Bodegas De Los Herederos Del Marqués De Riscal, a stunning winery in Rioja, northern Spain. Founded in 1858, the winery is still known for producing excellent wine, but there is also a truly dazzling luxury hotel on site, from which you can overlook the vineyards. In second place is VIK in Chile, and in third place is Creation in South Africa. However, the list was (not surprisingly) dominated by France, which occupies five of the top 25 spots. Among the top ten, there are also two German wineries represented...
